LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT

Featured Items: Equal Rights Amendment

ACTION NOW:
A lawsuit has been filed in MA by Equal Means Equal to compel the national archivist to put the ERA into the Constitution as amendment 28. No delay on the ERA.

On the national level, H.J.Res 79 to extend or remove the timeline will be on the House floor the week of Feb. 10. Contact your congressional representative and tell them to support the bill when it comes to the floor.

On the Senate side (S.J.Res 6), Senator Sinema has co-sponsored but Senator McSally has not. She has received over 300 letters, emails, and calls from around the state that specifically mention S.J.Res 6. Yet she continues to say in her responses that it's a state issue and she has no part in it. We need you to contact McSally and tell her to stop the lies and co-sponsor now.

Please continue to educate the public and to write to your local papers in favor of the ERA, both opinion pieces and letters to the editor. Tips for doing both and talking points are on the website.

Our list of supportive businesses grows daily. If you are the owner of a business, please email us to say YES put me on the list and give us the contact info that you want listed. We'll send you a decal for your window so you can make your belief for equality known. If you go to a business, and who doesn't, ask every one you frequent to support the ERA by sending an email with the YES and their contact information. Don't support businesses that don't support you.

A clergy group to support the ERA has been started by an evangelical minister so if you know of any clergy member from any faith who supports, have them contact the ERA Task Force.

If the ERA Task Force can send a speaker to your group or you can host a gathering, let them know. Check out the website and facebook page for contacts and information. It's your equality after all. ERAtaskforceaz.com

UPDATES

The legislative majority appears to understand they are going to lose their power so are moving rapidly to pass the most heinous bills designed to deprive women of reproductive rights, micro-manage schools and cities, depress voting and the voice of the people, and build walls not bridges.

Giving tax dollars to "crisis pregnancy centers" that are not medical establishments so are not required to give accurate or thorough information to women passed 5-4. (SB1328) It appears that legislators believe women should have the "choice" to send their children to private schools but they don't have the "choice" to determine if they should have children in the first place.

With SCR1029 legislators indicate their abhorrence at women being able to regulate their own body and their ignorance of both medicine and ethics.

SB1493 about dispensing of hormonal contraceptives is hard to understand because it seems to mean nothing so long as there is a valid prescription and when wouldn't there be? If the prescription is not valid, it should not be filled whether for hormonal contraceptives or pain killers or toe fungus!

Religious zealots are on the move in SB1529 while at the same time several legislators are enmeshed in scandals and ethics violations concerning love letters to and sexual harassment of lobbyists. Can you say "hypocrisy"?

CONTACT LIST

THE STEPS:  The person to contact to get the bill on the floor for voting is the President of the Senate or Speaker of the House depending on which chamber it is in.

When the bill gets to the floor, the person to contact is your own Senator or Representative.

Once a bill passes both houses, the person to contact is the governor. (The ERA does not need the governor's signature.)

ACTION ITEMS FOR THIS WEEK
If you want tips on writing to your senator or representatives, go here: https://erataskforceaz.com/resources

This is a long chart because the first few weeks of committee hearings require a lot to be packed in. But don't let it scare you. If you haven't time to see what happened last week, skip all of that and go directly to what is happening next week. If you only have time for one thing, pick the topic that is most important to you and take action. Even if you can act on only one bill, that is very important.

We urge you to use the Request to Speak System, call or email your legislator or show up for a committee hearing and have your voice heard!

HB2019, Fillmore More non-profits, public or private corporations into education and technical education in post-secondary.  Private education has been nothing but a scam as so many have been closed down due to fraud.  Even alleged “non-profits” like SW Keys are really for-profit. As SW Keys did, when they set up the non-profit corporation, they then subcontract to for-profit groups owned by themselves.  We have seen this in charter schools, some prominent legislators in fact reaped big on this.  It’s just taking more money from public education. OPPOSE    House Education 2/10

SCR1029, Kern Resolution opposing abortion - Abortion data, survivors act, to encourage House of Repesentatives in Congress to pass the law and a reporting law. They have already gone over it with the doctor. It sounds like the camel’s nose under the tent for interfering with women’s rights to prescribed contraceptive drugs.  Health and Human Services 2/12

SB1529, Livingston Health care ministries – is not transaction of insurance so no regulations should apply.  This is a system  where members pay for each other’s expenses but only up to what is already paid in.   Horror stories have been reported about people who thought they were buying insurance and then found nothing was covered.  To protect the public, it should be regulated like all insurance.   OPPOSE Senate Finance 2/12
